Students often can see themselves struggling to make a good writing. However, their definitions of a good writing may vary. For some students, a good writing should be a good reading as well. On the other hand, for other students, a good writing is separated from a good reading. A good writing does not necessarily have to engage the readers, but express the writer's idea clearly without any useless informations. A writing has to stay on topic, from the first sentence to the concluding sentence. Moreover, a good writing is revealed when the writer is handling a heavy topic. When a serious topic was thrown at the readers straight forward, they may feel burdensome to answer the question. Nevertheless, a writer who leads one to think to another level without the reader noticing, is a great technique to make the readers feel importantly, a good writing should have a good support to its opinion so the readers can think in the opposite perspective. Whether it changes the readers' opinions, it should at least make the readers to think on the writers' side.
On the other hand, a good reading does not need great grammar, but needs readers' close attentions. For example, The Help by Kathryn Stockett has a bad grammar, with a serious topic, but most importantly, has a unique style of writing that took a grasp of readers' attentions. Every chapter would be in different perspective, telling different stories about 1960s African American women. Although it handles a topic of racism, the author reveals how serious the problem was by using characters' funny but moving stories. The author's unique style of presenting a story was different from other books, and was astonishing of the author's skill to grab the reader's interest with such a heavy topic. A good reading does not have to be a good writing, and vise versa. However, they both need readers' attention and techniques to handle burdening topics easily.
